Woodyard BBQ in Kansas City. Burnt ends chili and spare ribs. Darn good. Featured on Diner, Drive-in and Dives show. Definitely a dive place heh. They have a different smoked flavor to their BBQ because of the various wood they use. See video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHp-JtqoPJE&feature=player_embedded
Pollo Pesto and Grand Canyon Pizzas
The Stone Canyon Pizza Company
Downtown Parkville
15 Main Street
Parkville, MO 64152
My first time to Stone Canyon pizza. The atmosphere was lively at the downtown location during the prime dinner time. We ended up trying the Pollo Pesto and Grand Canyon pizza.
I had to try the Grand Canyon pizza given the namesake. It has Mozzarella and cheddar cheese, smothered in American sausage, ground beef, pepperoni, fresh mushrooms, black olives, green peppers and red onions. The toppings and sauces were rather tasty. I would order this one again.
I was really looking forward the Pollo Pesto (pesto sauce topped with mozzarella cheese, roasted chicken breast, spinach, sweet roasted red peppers and toasted pine nuts) Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. All the components sounded and looked great, but the pizza was simply too dry. Not enough pesto sauce. I guess we should have listened to our waitress who did tells us it wasn’t one of her favorites but we ordered the smallest size anyway.
Overall the pizzas weren’t as great as they looked. The crust was rather bland, but the all the ingredients seemed to be high quality and good. It also nice that they weren’t overly greasy. But the sauce and crust held them back from being great.

Along the Seine Eggs Benedict | $9.99
My first trip to Fran’s Classic Diner, the menu selection was impressive. And being an egg lover, I quickly gravitated to their “Egg-cellent Entrees” section which is basically various egg benedict options. Everything in this section is served on a toasted English muffin, 2 poached eggs, mozzarella cheese Hollandaise sauce and a dash of paprika along with homefries and fresh fruit.
I ordered Along the Seine which is topped with your choice of baby spinach & ham or feta cheese & tomato lightly drizzled with balsamic vinegar. They actually made a mistake and gave me both options. Good mistake in my opinion. The balsamic vinegar really made the dish along with the cheese. In fact, it may have masked the ham in the dish which didn’t seem very flavorful or outstanding. The muffin was toasted well. The eggs however were slightly overdone in that it wasn’t very runny. The homefries were perfectly crispy on the outside with enough potato on the inside for a solid bite. The fruit was a nice capper.
With such a big menu, I definitely plan to try Fran’s again. Not the best benedict I’ve had, but I don’t put too much weight on only one try or visit. They are on the pricey side but the portions are pretty big to provide a decent value.
